44 Years Ago Today John Lennon Quits The Beatles!
On this day manager Allen Klein had called a business meeting to discuss business stuff & have the guys present sign a new contract he was renegotiating with EMI/Capitol for an increase in royalties. George was the sole member not present at this meeting as he was visiting his mom at the time who had cancer. He would however sign the contract a few days later. Another part of this new deal was that The Beatles would need to release 2 new albums a year, either as a group or solo until 1976. After discussing business details and after signing the new contract that had taken Klein months to negotiate, John chose to announce his decision to leave. Worrying about what an announcement like this would cause, John was asked not to make the announcement public. It was hoped that John would change his mind, but by this point John’s decision was made & nothing was going to change his mind.
